How to Make Money with a Digital Camera

You can make money with you digital camera by taking pictures at school, golf and corporate events. This business can generate a substantial income for you even if you are an amateur photographer.

What do you need to start an event photography business?

  • Good quality digital camera with an optical and digital zoom facility.
  • Extra memory cards.
  • Trailer with a roof. Vending type trailers are the best.
  • Access to a power point for your pc and printer.
  • Laser printer.
  • Photo paper in sizes A6, A5 and A4 for printouts.
  • White bond paper A4 size 80 mg to print small pictures on.
  • Photo image software such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel Photopaint or similar software to manipulate and edit pictures.
  • Cash slip book
  • Compact discs
  • CD writer/DVD writer
  • Display Board for the sample pictures (A6 size) printed on normal paper.

How does the event photography business work?

You take pictures at school events, for example, at athletics, baseball, basketball, gala, soccer, netball, football or any sport event. Take pictures of the children that participate in the sports, when they receive their trophies or while crossing the finish line. You can also take pictures of corporate events - when they tee off and at the last hole as well as of the winners.

Display the pictures on a board. Print 6 to 9 pictures on an A4 size bond paper. Place the display board where the parents and children can see it. Number each picture. They select the pictures that they want and you print it in the desired size on photo paper. You can also offer to burn it to a cd/dvd.

How many persons are needed to run the event photography business?

One person can do it, but two will make it easier. One takes the pictures and the other takes the orders and prints the pictures.

How many hours do you have to work?

Most events take place on Fridays and Saturdays, implying that you will work eight days every month. You can use Mondays to Thursdays to stock up on ink cartridges, photo paper and bond paper. Also use the time to market your business via the Internet and to contact schools or businesses. They will be eager to make use of the service if you offer them 10 to 15% of your turn-over for the day. Be sure to provide quality service with a smile and you will be in demand!
